Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias has expanded his mayoral campaign footprint by opening a new field office in North Lawndale, establishing a more permanent presence on Chicago’s West Side as he seeks the city’s top job.
The office, located at 1425 S. Kedzie Ave. near Douglass Park, began operating on Oct. 3. It serves a dual purpose: a hub for campaign volunteers and a community space where residents can gather, share concerns, and access basic support services through mutual aid efforts. Giannoulias has emphasized that these sites are meant to be more than political outposts—they are intended to be places where residents can engage directly with his team and receive help when needed.

In a statement, Giannoulias said campaigns should demonstrate commitment beyond asking for votes. He described the new offices as spaces where neighbors can discuss issues facing their communities, participate in shaping solutions, and find support during difficult moments. His goal, he said, is to model the kind of responsive and community‑centered leadership he hopes to bring to City Hall.
Giannoulias currently oversees statewide responsibilities including DMV operations, the organ donor registry, and business services. His mayoral run, however, is unfolding alongside a legal challenge brought by fellow candidate Bill Quinlan. Quinlan argues that Giannoulias—along with U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley and Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas—is improperly seeking two public offices at once. A hearing in that case is scheduled for Oct. 14.
The opening of the West Side office marks another step in Giannoulias’ effort to build a citywide campaign infrastructure while positioning himself as an active presence in neighborhoods often overlooked in municipal politics.
