As cold weather once again hits Northern Illinois warming centers are at the ready. Anyone lacking a warm place to stay can visit one of the locations below. Additionally Seniors can seek shelter in one of the 21 Senior Centers in Chicago listed here. Chicago locations are additionally listed in English, Spanish and Polish by choosing a language in the Translate pull down menu.

Berwyn Public Library: 2701 South Harlem Avenue, Berwyn, Monday – Thursday 9 am – 9 pm, Friday – Saturday 9 am – 5 pm, Sunday 1 pm – 5pm

Berwyn Recreation Department: 6501 West 31st Street, Berwyn, Monday – Friday 8 am – 8 pm

Village of Broadview Municipal Building: 2350 South 25th Avenue, Broadview, Monday – Saturday 6 pm – 12 am, Sunday 8 am – 12 am

Leyden Township Community Center: 2620 Manheim Road, Franklin Park, Monday – Friday 6 am – 9 pm, Saturday 9 am – 3 pm

Oak Park Township Senior Services: 130 South Oak Park Avenue, Oak Park, Monday – Friday 8 am – 5 pm

West Suburban Medical Center: 3 Erie Street, Oak Park, Monday – Sunday 8 am – 5 pm

Proviso Township Office: 4565 West Harrison Street, Hillside, Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

River Forest Community Center: 8020 West Madison Street, River Forest, Monday – Friday 8 am – 8 pm

Riverside Village Office: 27 Riverside Road, Riverside, Monday – Friday 9 am – 5 pm

To stay warm and safe follow the tips below (courtesy of the City of Chicago). If you are a health care provider please print the warming sites list and make sure your patients are aware of these services.

Call 311 to:
locate a warming shelter and support services
request a well-being check for someone who may be at risk
report inadequate heat in a residential building
learn about programs able to assist with heating costs
Wear multiple layers of loose clothing and keep hands, head and feet covered when outside
Avoid alcohol
Never use an extension cord with a space heater, this is a fire hazard
Never use an oven to heat a home, this is a fire hazard
Recognize symptoms of hypothermia and call 911:
stiff muscles
puffy or swollen face
cold skin
slow breathing
mental confusion
