MAYWOOD | Cook County jurors have convicted a man for the 2013 shooting death of a Cook County sheriff’s investigator in Maywood.
Brandon Jackson was found guilty on Jan 22 in the death of 50-year-old Cuauhtemoc Estrada.
Estrada, 50, worked as an investigator for Cook County for more than two decades and was a former Marine. At the time of the shooting, he was hosting a family Christmas party at the VFW hall located in Bellwood because he was scheduled to work on Christmas.
Prosecutors say Estrada was fatally shot in a Bellwood parking lot while trying to protect his daughter and her boyfriend from two masked robbers who included Jackson. Jackson’s attorney, Valerie Panozzo, told the jury prosecutors didn’t prove their case and video and photo evidence was blurry and unreliable.
Jurors returned with a guilty verdict in less than six hours, according to reports.
