MAYWOOD | For the second time this year, another case of horrific child
abuse is reported in Maywood.

A Maywood man has been charged with burning his girlfriend’s 21-month-
old son over 80 percent of his body by placing him in scalding water,
according to  authoriities.

Prentice Young, 24, was ordered held on $1 million bail in a hearing
Thursday before Cook County Maywood Branch Court Judge Ramon
Ocasio III.

The boy’s mother rushed him to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital’s emergency
room because the boy had received severe burns while in Young’s care,
according to a release from Maywood police.

Chicago police detectives, first alerted of the incident, learned that Young,
of the 1000 block of Madison Street in Maywood, had been watching the
boy on Sunday when he put him in a bathtub of scalding hot water,
causing second- and third-degree burns over 80 percent of his body,
police said. He then dried the boy off and put him in his bed for the night,
police said.

Police arrested Young and he was charged with aggravated battery to a
child under age 13, according to police and court records.
Young is scheduled to appear in court again on Oct. 30.
