Autism had no face, no voice and no center of support in Maywood until one woman
decided to make a difference in the life of her family and the community. Debra Vines
founder of The Answer Inc. is calling for all members of the community to defeat the
stigma of autism and to embrace its autistic residents.

A Parents Crusade
A mother who refused to let the fact that her son had Autism has begun a crusade to
make it her purpose to be a circle of support for parents in the Maywood area who
happen to have children with Autism by forming a new organization called The Answer.

Concerned parents start up Autism
support program
Vines and her husband James Harlan started the program in January 2007 as a
support system for their son Jason Harlan 19, who is Autistic. “We often struggled
because there was no support system for him. There were no creative outlets in the
community that would allow him to flourish and live a normal life,” Vines said.
