MAYWOOD | The Village of Maywood Board of Trustees voted to
approve an ordinance authorizing a loan agreement between the
village and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to replace two
sections of water mains.

Contingent to IEPA approval, the 20-year Public Water Supply Loan
Program will provide $1,670,000 in no-interest funds to the village.
Additionally, with economic stimulus dollars being part of the loan, 25
percent of the projects costs will be forgiven.

“The Village of Maywood looks at this opportunity as an excellent way
to address a long-standing problem with two major sections of water
mains,” stated Village Manager Jason Ervin in a statement issued to
the press.  Ervin said that water main replacement will be on Bataan
Drive from 9th Avenue to 1st Avenue and on 9th Avenue from Main
Street to the north village limits.

“Continuous leaks have occurred because of breaks in those two
water mains,” Ervin added, “and it has resulted in numerous repairs
over the recent years.  This 20-year no-interest loan will be a real
investment to Maywood,” according to Ervin.

Maywood has advertised for bids and will open them at a public
meeting on January 12, 2010, according to a village spokesperson.
An award will be made at the following village board meeting,
pursuant to the IEPA approval of the loan.
